Questions We Get All the Time
Straight answers from Gene — no fluff. If your question isn't here, just call or text and he'll pick up.
💰 Pricing & Estimates
The average full fence installation in Cedar Park runs around $3,500 — that includes cedar boards, posts, concrete, hardware, and cleanup. The final number depends on your linear footage, whether we need to remove an old fence, and any obstacles like trees or slopes along the fence line.
Gene says
"I always give a written estimate after seeing the property in person. I don't do ballpark numbers over the phone — I want you to know exactly what you're paying before anything starts."
We schedule on-site estimates within 24 hours of your first contact. Call or text Gene at (737) 400-1230 or fill out the form on our contact page — he responds the same day, 7 days a week.
100% free, zero pressure. Gene visits, measures, answers your questions, and hands you a written estimate. No deposit required to schedule, no obligation to proceed.
That's the most common thing we hear — and it's a fair question. But we've also been called in more times than we can count to fix fences that were built cheaper by someone else. Shallow posts, wrong concrete, boards installed wrong — it all fails within a year or two, usually after the first big Texas storm.
Gene says
"I'm not trying to be the cheapest. I'm trying to be the guy you call back in 3 years — not to fix something, but because you want a deck or a gate. Some of my clients have been with me for 3 years and they always come back. That's what I'm building toward."
We accept any form of payment — cash, check, Zelle, Venmo, or card. A deposit is collected upfront only to cover materials. The remaining balance is paid after the job is done and you're happy with the result.
📋 Process & Timeline
Most projects are done in 1 to 3 days. The timeline depends on:
- Whether we're removing an old fence (extra time and cost)
- Old concrete footings that need to be broken out
- Trees, sheds, or other obstacles along the fence line
- Total linear footage and terrain
Yes — we handle old fence removal, including breaking out old concrete footings if needed. It's priced separately from the new installation. Just mention it when you request an estimate and we'll include it in the quote.
Always. We haul away all scrap wood, old fence boards, concrete debris, and packaging. We leave your yard the way we found it — clean, with a new fence in it.
Gene personally oversees every project from start to finish — he's present at every key stage and steps in wherever needed. For custom woodwork (furniture, built-ins, accent walls), Gene does it himself. For larger fence and construction jobs, his experienced crew works on-site with Gene actively involved throughout.
Gene says
"I'm not the guy who shows up for the estimate and then disappears. I'm on every project. My name is on every fence we build."
📄 Permits & Regulations
Per Cedar Park city code, fences up to 8 feet high do not require a building permit. Most residential privacy fences fall well under that limit. That said, your HOA may have its own rules around fence height, style, or materials — it's worth a quick check before we start. Gene will flag anything unusual during the estimate visit.
Every single time. We contact 811 (Texas Dig Safe) before any project that involves digging. Underground utility lines are marked and cleared before we start. This isn't optional — it's the law, and it protects your property.
🌲 Materials & Quality
Our standard is cedar from Home Depot — it's proven, holds up well in Texas weather, and sits in the sweet spot of price and quality. It's what we'd use on our own homes. That said, if you want a different wood, we'll build with whatever you prefer. Your project, your call.
Minimum 2 feet deep, always in concrete. Shallow posts are the #1 reason cheap fences fail — they start leaning after a year or two, especially after Texas storms. We don't cut corners here. A fence is only as good as what's underground.
Yes — 6 months warranty on all labor. If something isn't right with how the job was done, call Gene and we'll make it right. Natural wood weathering over time isn't covered (that's just Texas), but anything related to the installation — we stand behind it.
👤 About Fokins Custom Woodwork
We build relationships, not just fences. Some of our customers have been with us for 3 years — they call Gene for every project around their home because they trust that he'll show up, be honest, and do it right.
Gene says
"It's not about how many clients I have. It's about trust. I'd rather have 10 people who know me by name than 100 who can't remember who built their fence."
"How did you do that so fast?"
That's the one Gene hears the most. We show up when we say we will and finish on schedule — sometimes ahead of it. In an industry known for delays and no-shows, that alone sets us apart.
